Hinni Huttunen and J. A. Juvani are two queer artists who are collaborating on a project that deals with the evils of nuclear family and the institution of marriage. The project is anti-heteronormative manifest in four chapters. In the exhibition First Draft Huttunen and Juvani will show the beginning of the first chapter titled: ENGAGEMENT.

⌁ ⌁ ⌁ ⌁ ⌁ ⌁

Through visibility queerness might get lost since the capitalist gaze comes with a singular order and structure. But what happens in a semitransparent room? These are the questions TM, Erik Thörnqvist and Afrang Nordlöf Malekian are working around in the exhibition First Draft.

26.4.19 – 19.5.19

VERNISSAGE 26.4.19 KL. 17-19

The everyday schedule of the factory is rigid and with high speed. Even though the prominent presence of technical machines – the human hand is of great importance. Each touch adds value to the product.

What happens though when the system itself implies a policing agent to the persons whom are working there? Is a structured day and becoming a robot as close to bliss one could come? Can swiping your feed be the outermost rebellion to the problem with work? Smear yourself with green goo, take a bite of blue bao bread and then get stuck in the circuit.

“Mesh” showcases a slice of contemporary video from the Nordic countries and their diasporas. The twenty-three works of more than twenty artists form a cohesive whole, elusive but nevertheless connected. A diverse range of topics are all part of the interwoven whole, together forming a network spanning various sub-genres within the audiovisual field.

The exhibition consists of three rooms with multiple screens.

In the northern hemisphere the face of the winter is conditioned by extremely cold temperatures and only sparse presence of light. UTTRAN was an exhibition which gathered 25 artists to exhibit on a frozen lake about 30 kilometres south of Stockholm.

When a lake freezes, the scenery changes and a formerly inaccessible part of the landscape hardens, transforming into a surface of public domain. The calm waves of the summer lake turn into a busy and highly frequented icescape. During the day ice skaters move their twirling and cruising bodies while the silence of the night let’s you hear the long resonating cries of the ice.

November 12 – January 7: THE EPICENTRE OF EVERYTHING

Participating artists: Nilbar Güres, Signe Johannessen, Kultivator, Jaakko Pallasvuo & Anni Puolakka, Erik Thörnqvist & Alva Höggren, Geraldine Barrera, Alexandra Arciniegas.

Galleri Syster operates in Luleå in the north of Sweden since 2006. We relate daily to the periphery in different ways. The periphery is a geographical location but also a state of mind. In geometry the periphery represents the circumference of the circle, a place that is considered to be surrounding some sort of centre. Today’s society puts it’s major focus consistently on the centre. There is a sort of consensus around the idea of the centre being the well of knowledge and thereby intelligentsia. The epicentre of creation, the fundamental condition for development. Perhaps the truth is the exact opposite? If periphery and centre are not defined in terms of geometry or geography, but in a mental and theoretical state, we arrive at a totally different conclusion. Periphery as a motor with a broad base of experience. A guarantor of democracy that includes all and extend everywhere.

In the exhibition The Epicentre of Everything we explore the concept of centre and periphery from a social, geographical and psychological perspective. We use art as a tool to put focus on the periphery as a condition for the centre. The circle has no centre if it is not surrounded by that which is all around it.
